What is the CPAAA?

And why should I be interested in becoming part of it?

CPAAA of Lexington, Kentucky

The Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (CPAAA) was established in 1997 as an outgrowth of the Citizen Police Academy (CPA)   The Citizen Police Academy is a free, dynamic 10-week program designed to foster better communication between citizens and police through education. This program is comprehensive, covering a different area of the department each week.  The Lexington Police Department (LPD) has found that education has been most effective in gaining understanding and support from the community. The Citizen Police Academy offers residents insights into how police officers perform their duties and how the department serves the community.
Since 1997, the CPAAA has continually grown and evolved. and as a partnership with the LPD to provide continuing education, support for the LPD, and to promote mutual trust between the department and the citizens it serves.
Our mission includes education, fundraising and volunteering. Education provides a means to bridge the gap between our citizens and the LPD. By sharing this knowledge, the community can gain a better understanding of how our officers perform their
duties and serve their community. Fundraising activities such as the KY 3-Day Event, Road to the Horse and Silent Auction
allows us to support the department in many ways. Some examples can be found in the Meetings and Events section.  Volunteering allows us to personally show the officers that we, the citizens they serve and protect, support and care about them and are grateful for what they do on a daily basis to protect our community!
One often overlooked aspect to this adventure is the FUN you will have and the friendships you will forge while working toward a
common goal!  Each of us in the CPAAA have passion, skills, and abilities that enhance our mission.  Many of our current activities came about because a member’s personal interest was used to enhance our mission of BACKING THE BLUE!  So please join us; everyone is welcome!  We promise, you will get back more than you give!

General membership meetings for the CPAAA include a speaker on a topic within the police department along with a membership meeting to discuss upcoming events, new fundraising ideas, and general business within the organization.  MASTER CLASSES are held once a year, over several weeks, to further your education with even more in depth and additional topics outside of the department, but within law enforcement. Classes can include information from the Commonwealth Attorney, County Attorney and Coroner.  You will constantly be learning something new if you join us!

General membership meetings are held once a month, usually on the first Thursday.

Board Meetings are held the last Thursday of the month and all paid members are welcome to attend.
